PSP: Armed Pottsville man threatened, hit teens for using shared driveway
NORWEGIAN TOWNSHIP – A Pottsville man is in Schuylkill County Prison after troopers say he struck a teen in the head with a firearm and threatened others for using a shared driveway near Seltzer.
The incident happened around 6:30pm Saturday in the 400 block of Seltzer Road.
Troopers said Rick Carl, 51, of Pottsville, armed with a firearm, confronted a group of four teens, a 17-year-old boy, 16-year-old boy, 17-year-old girl, and 15-year-old girl — using a shared driveway at the location.
Troopers said Carl began waiving the firearm around in close proximity to the victims, and, at one point, one of them confronted Carl, at which point they were hit in the head.
Carl was arrested and committed to Schuylkill County Prison. He was released on March 29 after posting $50,000 bail.
He is charged with felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, four counts of misdemeanor terroristic threats, four counts of misdemeanor simple assault, four counts of misdemeanor reckless endangerment, one count of misdemeanor disorderly conduct, one count of summary harassment, and one count of summary public drunkenness.
Carl was arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge Stephen J. Bayer, and has a preliminary hearing set for April 9 at 9:00am in Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko’s courtroom.
