Proposed EMA building at fire school gets West Mahanoy planner approval
Ryan Township approval still needed
SHENANDOAH HEIGHTS – A proposed building at the Schuylkill County Training Academy, which would house classrooms and offices for the Emergency Management Agency, is one step closer to fruition.
The West Mahanoy Township Planning Commission signed off Thursday on the proposal at the fire school at the end of Fireman’s Road east of Frackville.
It would be on the northern section of the property, split almost evenly between West Mahanoy Township and Ryan Township. The property is owned by the Schuylkill County Volunteer Fireman’s Association.
Plans prepared by Alfred Benesch and Co. show the building would be 10,880 square feet of office and classroom space, 3,200 square feet of pull-through garage space, and would be fronted on Fireman’s Road short of the gate to the fire school.
There would be “7 or 8 offices” for EMA personnel and three training classrooms with a total of 116 parking spaces for the facility.
No representative from either the fireman’s association or EMA were present at the meeting besides their engineer.
The planning commission voted 2-0 to approve waiving the preliminary plan requirement and approving the plan as a final plan.
