Police: Mahanoy man, wanted for failure to serve sentence, leads police chase to Luzerne Co.
MAHANOY CITY – A Mahanoy City man is in custody after police here say he led them on a chase to Luzerne County at over 100 miles per hour.
Travis John, 31, of Mahanoy City, was already wanted for failure to serve a prison sentence. He was supposed to report on Feb. 15 to serve nine to 23 months, police said. That sentence was for a drug charge, according to court records.
Monday morning, driving a 2016 Ford Focus, he led Mahanoy City Police on a pursuit onto Interstate 81 north to the 150 mile marker — near the I-80 interchange — before police called off the pursuit for safety concerns.
At that point, officers said, he was driving at over 100 miles per hour.
Later Monday afternoon, Mahanoy City Police said John was taken into custody.
He is charged with felony fleeing and eluding, misdemeanor flight to avoid punishment, and numerous summary traffic violations.
