Police: ‘Family friend’ caught in midst of sexual act with 15-year-old
MAHANOY CITY – A Mahanoy City man is in Schuylkill County Prison, accused of having an sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl.
Nadir Khalil Muhammed, 30, of 325 East Centre Street, is facing three counts of felony statutory sexual assault among other charges.
According to the criminal complaint filed Monday night by Mahanoy City Police Chief Thomas Rentschler, police were made aware of the situation early Monday morning.
An officer received a call around 3:30am reporting an inappropriate relationship between the complainant’s 15-year-old sister and a 30-year-old man.
Later in the day, the chief visited the home, spoke to the parents, and requested the parents and siblings to come to the police station for a formal interview around 4:30pm.
One sibling reported that she heard “a lot of moaning and the house shake” and began to investigate the commotion.
They sourced the noise to the 15-year-old victim’s room, where they caught Muhammed and the victim in the act, and on cell phone video. They then confronted Muhammed, who fled.
Police then spoke to the victim, who said Muhammed was a family friend and admitted the two were engaged in intercourse until the confrontation. She said it was the third time in the past two months.
The victim reported that the relationship had existed for two or three months before the first act, and that Muhammed was aware of her age and still willing to engage.
Around 8pm, police visited Muhammed’s residence and requested him to visit the police station for an interview, which he did.
He was read his Miranda warnings and continued with the interview, saying he was friends with the family for 11 years and the victim for three, “fully understanding she is only 15 years of age.”
Muhammed, police said, admitted to the act on three occasions — once around Oct. 14 at a location near West Pine Street. He had been asked by the family to speak to the girl, who began talking about family issues before hugging him. The affection escalated to intercourse, initiated by him.
The second time was at his house, he told police, after she had a fight with her siblings. The final time happened after he had been hanging out with the victim, her sibling, and another female. He said they hang out until around 3am drinking and smoking marijuana. When they were done, the victim invited Muhammed to her room where the act occurred.
He was arraigned on three counts of felony statutory sexual assault, misdemeanor indecent assault of a person less than 16 years of age, indecent assault, and one county of felony corruption of minors.
He was committed to Schuylkill County Prison, unable to post $50,000 cash bail.
A preliminary hearing is set for April 4.
