MAHANOY CITY – Next week, PennDOT is planning to oil-and-chip Centre Street through the heart of this borough.

A PennDOT spokesperson told the Sentinel Friday that work is slated for Route 54 through Mahanoy City and in the Hometown area late next week.

“We are skin patching them to seal the surface to prevent/limit the potholes over the next few years,” PennDOT Safety Press Officer Sean Brown said. “Both of these areas are planned for a surface improvement projects in the next few years and the oil and chip work will help to seal the roadway until the resurfacing projects can begin.”

The projects, PennDOT says, will take one day each and they plan to sweep up excess stone the next day.

Mahanoy City Police said in a Facebook post Friday that no parking restrictions are in place, “but if you have concerns about your vehicle it would be recommended to park else where.”
