Oil burner malfunction cause of smoke condition at N. Main home

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - Shenandoah firefighters Thomas Swantek, left, and Derrick Donchak enter 210 North Main as police Lieutenant William Moyer stands by.
SHENANDOAH – Some Shenandoah firefighters didn’t have far to go for a call downtown today.
Firefighters were called to 210 North Main Street at 5:30pm today for smoke in a structure.
A resident at the scene said he started his oil burner, which created a smoke condition, prompting him to shut the burner off and call the fire department.

No flames were seen, he said.
The Rescue Hook and Ladder Co. is across the street from the home. One of its trucks, Ladder 64-25, a tractor-drawn aerial, was about five feet from the garage bay door when it parked at the scene.
Columbia’s Engine arrived within minutes of dispatch as well.

Their chief, Joe Boris, confirmed the incident was an oil burner malfunction and the homeowner has to have his oil burner serviced.
Also responding were Shenandoah Police and Frackville Ambulance.
