North Schuylkill inducts 47th Football Hall of Fame class
FOUNTAIN SPRINGS – The North Schuylkill Football Hall of Fame has four new members.
The school inducted the 47th class to the hall during a halftime ceremony during Friday’s game as the Spartans hosted Northern Lehigh.
This year’s inductees were: Aaron Bolinsky, Class of 2018; Scotty Grigas, Class of 2018; Doug Weist, Class of 2018; and Jim Gross, Class of 1992.
Biographies for each inductee, as posted by the school district to Facebook, are as follows:
Aaron Bolinsky
Bolinsky started his senior season at center, defensive line, and long snapper for the Spartans after transferring from Blue Mountain where he started three years. As a senior captain, he was selected to the Republican-Herald All-Area first-team, Schuylkill County Football Coaches Association Dream Team and was named Offensive Lineman of the Year. Bolinsky also earned varsity letters in baseball. Upon graduation, he started 55 consecutive games at long snapper in four seasons at Syracuse University where he snapped for three different All-American specialists. During his senior year at Syracuse, Bolinsky was a team captain and Wuerffel Trophy nominee which honors college football’s most impactful leaders in community service with leadership achievement on and off the field. Bolinsky also earned numerous academic honors and awards at Syracuse. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance and a master’s degree in accounting. Bolinsky is currently pursuing a professional football career.
Scotty Grigas
A 2018 graduate, Grigas earned two varsity letters at wide receiver. As a senior, Grigas led the Schuylkill League in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns. He tied the school record for receptions in a season and set the record for receptions in a game with 13. Voted second-team All-State by PA Football News, Grigas was selected to the first-team Schuylkill County Football Coaches Association Dream Team and North All-Star team, Hazleton Standard-Speaker All-Area first-team, Republican-Herald All-Area first-team, and News-Item All-Area first-team. He also earned varsity letters in baseball, soccer, and track. Grigas graduated with a degree in computer science from Muhlenberg College where he ran track for four years and served as captain his senior year. Grigas is employed by Hearst Corporation, Manhattan, New York, as an optimization manager.
Doug Weist
Weist graduated in 2018. He started two years at quarterback and one year at cornerback. As a junior quarterback, he was named News-Item and Standard-Speaker All-Area honorable mention. As a senior quarterback, Weist was selected to the Republican-Herald All-Area and Schuylkill County Football Coaches Association All-Star second-teams. He also was selected to the Hazleton Standard-Speaker All-Area team as a quarterback and cornerback. Weist was named T102 player of the game vs. Notre Dame Green Pond during his senior year in addition to receiving the Schuylkill League football sportsmanship award and was North Schuylkill’s scholar-athlete recipient. Weist also earned varsity letters in basketball. A Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) sportsmanship award recipient, Weist graduated with honors from Wilkes University with a degree in environmental engineering. He is currently employed as a designer for Alfred Benesch and Company.
Honorary inductee Jim Gross
Jim Gross graduated from North Schuylkill in 1992 where he earned varsity letters in golf, basketball and baseball. After finishing his high school career with over 1,000 points, Jim committed to Susquehanna University to play basketball. After college, he spent 10 years as an on-air sports anchor for the Pottsville Broadcasting Company. For the past 17 years, Jim has been North Schuylkill School District’s athletic director. As athletic director, Jim has been a Robert Stimmel and Frank P. Ulicny Memorial Award winner and was twice named Donald Bricker Schuylkill League Athletic Director of Year. Jim has also been inducted into the Jerry Wolman, Northern Anthracite Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. The North Schuylkill Football Hall of Fame wishes to recognize Jim as an honorary inductee for his loyalty and influential contributions to the football program and hall of fame. During his tenure, Jim has demonstrated ongoing commitment to the educational, personal, and professional pursuits of student-athletes. Jim’s leadership and administrative excellence has significantly contributed to the overall success of the Spartan football program.
