No injuries in Gilberton crash that downed pole, sparked brush fire
GILBERTON – A father and daughter escaped injury when their SUV sheared a utility pole on Gilberton Road near the Mahanoy Township line Tuesday afternoon.
The crash happened around 4:30pm near a coal processing facility in the borough.
Frackville Police said a Kia was headed west towards Gilberton Borough when the driver was checking on his daughter in the backseat.
The vehicle left the roadway and sheared a utility pole, downing power lines, which sparked a brush fire.
Patrolman Joseph Murton told the Sentinel neither occupant in the vehicle were hurt, though they were checked out at the scene by Mahanoy City EMS.
Firefighters from Mahanoy Plane and Englewood responded to extinguish the brush fire.
Gilberton Road was closed from Route 54 in Saint Nicholas to Gilberton proper.
The vehicle was towed from the scene by Steve’s Towing, of Shenandoah.
