New Ringgold man faces charges for Bobcat excavator theft

NEW RINGGOLD – A New Ringgold man is facing a multitude of charges after he allegedly stole a Bobcat excavator, and struck a State Police patrol car with it.
According to State Police at Schuylkill Haven, the incident occurred around 6:00am on October 1, when troopers from both the Frackville and Schuylkill Haven barracks responded to the area of Ridge Road in East Brunswick Township in reference to an investigation of a stolen vehicle.
The vehicle, a Bobcat mini excavator, was reported stolen from the Kevin E. Raker Construction Company, and was observed in the area by property owners.
Troopers arrived to find the vehicle driving north on Ridge Road, and a Schuylkill Haven trooper attempted to pull the Bobcat over, though it continued.
A Frackville trooper approached from the front in his vehicle, and was struck by the Bobcat.
The Bobcat’s driver, Barron Belsak, 45, of New Ringgold, was removed from the vehicle and taken into custody.
Belsak faces charges of Aggravated Assault, Receiving Stolen Property, Possessing Instruments of Crime, Recklessly Endangering Another Persom, Institutional Vandalism, and Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer.
Belsak was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge James K Reiley, Pottsville, and bail was set at $75,000 straight cash.
