SHENANDOAH – An overloaded circuit was to blame for a small electrical fire on Shenandoah’s southside early Friday morning.

Firefighters were called to 205 West Atlantic Street around 1:00am for reports of a fire.

A light smoke condition was present in the second floor of the home as first responders first arrived on scene.

Eric Becker, resident, told the Sentinel a fire extinguisher handled much of the fire before crews arrived. He said he and his family were awoken when a family member heard popping behind the television.

After evacuating pets and other family members, the fire was extinguished and power was cut to the room via a breaker box.

Firefighters from Shenandoah’s Rescue Hook and Ladder, Phoenix, and Columbia Fire Companies were on scene within minutes, making sure the fire hadn’t spread through the walls, and ventilating the structure.

Shenandoah Fire Marshal Rick Examitas said that minimal damage was done to the home, citing the cause of the fire as an overloaded circuit.

No injuries were reported, Examitas added.

Firefighters were clear of the scene within about an hour.
