Memorial Day ceremony set in Gilberton
GILBERTON – Gilberton’s Memorial Day ceremony is set.
The borough will recognize its veterans in a ceremony at 11:30am May 29 at the Continental firehouse in Gilberton.
Mayor Michael Van Allen said at Thursday’s borough meeting that military honors will be performed by a group from Girardville.
A wreath will also be laid at the memorial outside the firehouse by Lloyd George and Jean Kostick.
In other business, borough council tabled a motion to retain new police protection for the borough.
Currently, the borough pays Frackville for police coverage. The Frackville Police Department has had staffing struggles since every full-time officer left in the span of a year.
Currently, that department has a Chief and a full-time patrolman on the full-time roster. An offer has been extended for another full-time position.
