Man escapes injury in W. Mahanoy crash
UPDATE 7:36am — Roads have reopened.
SHENANDOAH HEIGHTS – Route 924 and Ringtown Boulevard are closed as of 7:15am Saturday after a crash sent a car into the woodlands, downing a utility pole and scattering power and telecommunication lines across both roadways.
Firefighters were called to the intersection of Ringtown Boulevard and Shenandoah Highway — the Pattersonville Wye — around 4:00am early Saturday morning for the crash.
Shenandoah Heights firefighters arrived to find wires across the entire wye and a Jeep Liberty in the woodlands to the west of Ringtown Boulevard.
The Liberty was headed south on Shenandoah Highway towards Shenandoah, coming from Brandonville. The SUV drove through the grassy median of the wye, across Ringtown Boulevard, up and over an embankment, landing in the woodlands on its passenger side.
Along the way, the vehicle struck and sheared a utility pole.
The male driver was unharmed and able to get out of the vehicle on his own.
Fire Police from Shenandoah, Sheppton, and Ringtown shut down the roads leading to the scene in Pattersonville, Brandonville, and Shenandoah while PP&L crews repaired the pole and downed lines.
As of 7:15am, the roadways were still closed.
State Police at Frackville are investigating.
No power outages were reported as a result of the crash, according to PP&L’s outage map.
