Malfunctioning chimney draws fire response to Mahanoy home
MAHANOY CITY – Mahanoy City firefighters were called to a home in the borough when black smoke was seen pouring out of the chimney Wednesday evening.
The call came around 6:00pm for a reported chimney fire at 200 West Pine Streets in the borough, bringing firefighters from Mahanoy City’s five fire companies and Shenandoah’s Columbia to the scene.
Crews were on scene within minutes, and light black smoke was seen coming from the chimney.
Fire Chief Dan Markiewicz said the cause of the smoke was a malfunctioning chimney, not a fire, and the homeowner has to have the chimney serviced.
Fire crews were clear of the scene in short order.
