Mahanoy man hydroplanes, flips car in Brandonville
BRANDONVILLE – A Mahanoy City man escaped injury when he flipped his SUV in this East Union Township village this morning.
The crash happened just before 5:00am in the 800 block of Main Boulevard as James Blackwell, 45, of Mahanoy City was headed south on Route 924 towards Shenandoah.
Heavy rains had passed through the area and a “high volume of water was running across the roadway,” State Police at Frackville said, as Blackwell traveled in his 2002 GMC Envoy.
Blackwell’s Envoy began to hydroplane in the running water, sliding off the right side of the roadway before striking an embankment.
The vehicle overturned and came to a rest on its roof.
Blackwell was evaluated at the scene by Shenandoah Community Ambulance personnel and refused further transport and evaluation.
Sheppton-Oneida Firefighters responded to the scene as well.
