Mahanoy area municipalities awarded grant for comprehensive plan, zoning update
MAHANOY CITY – This borough and its surrounding townships have been awarded a grant to help fund a multi-municipal comprehensive plan and zoning update.
The state Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) announced the grant award Tuesday.
DCED said the $20,000 grant through the Municipal Assistance Program will allowed Mahanoy City borough, along with Delano, Mahanoy, and Ryan Townships, to work together to develop a multi-municipal comprehensive plan and zoning update.
In total, $462,580 in grants were awarded across eight counties. The Mahanoy area project is the only one in Schuylkill or adjacent counties.
“We have strengthened our abilities to support local governments thanks to the Governor’s commonsense budget,” said DCED Secretary Rick Siger. “The Municipal Assistance Program provides more support for municipalities and allows DCED to work with more communities across the Commonwealth while alleviating the burden on local governments to provide critical community services to taxpayers.”
The Municipal Assistance Program, DCED says, provides technical resources and assistance for municipalities, consolidation, regional efforts as well as serving as a resource for local government officials, developers, and citizens interested in planning to improve, grow, and enhance communities.
