In-person instruction suspended at PASSHE schools until March 29
MAXATAWNY TWP., Berks County – Students at schools in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education will not have in-person classes until at least March 29, according to a directive handed down by PASSHE chancellor Dan Greenstein.
Kutztown University President Kenneth Hawkinson notified his campus community of the direction Friday night, noting KU would convert to online instruction for March 23-29.
“It is our expectation that KU residence halls will now reopen Sunday, March 29 at 1pm,” Hawkinson said. “We are closely monitoring the situation, and will adjust our plans as needed based on the most up-to-date directives we receive from the state government and State System.”
The directive also covers Bloomsburg University in Columbia County. Both schools draw a multitude of students from our area.
Greenstein said the decision was to keep in line with Governor To Wolf’s strategy to contain the virus and limit social interactions.
“We encourage students, faculty, and staff to be in contact with their home universities–their best source of direct information,” Greenstein said. “In the days and weeks ahead, it’s important for us to come together, exercise patience, and collaborate with one another as we confront our collective challenges. This is going to take everybody doing their part for the sake of our students.”
