UPDATE: Mahanoy home almost entirely collapses into A Street
UPDATE 11:25pm – A home which partially collapsed around sundown Thursday, prompting the closure of a portion of A Street, almost entirely came down into that street later in the evening.
The home at 338 West Mahanoy Avenue had been vacant and abandoned for years and was purchased by a New York City man in December, and that man passed away in March.
The further collapse prompted the closure of Mahanoy Avenue from B Street to Catawissa as crews took down portions of the building which were in imminent danger of further collapse.
Once done, Mahanoy Avenue was reopened, but A Street remained closed from Mahanoy to South.
Debris spread across A Street, one of Mahanoy City’s north-south alleyways, and the collapse exposed the wall which separates 338 from neighboring 336 West Mahanoy Ave, a home owned by Jose Manuel Diaz, of McAdoo.
No injuries were reported, and the borough will have to hire a contractor to bring the property completely down.
