Hazleton plant to close, WARN notice says

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - WestRock's Hazleton plant.

HAZLETON – A Hazleton cardboard packaging plant is set to close at the end of October, according to a notice filed with the state.

Atlanta-based WestRock notified the state earlier this month of their intention to close their folding carton plant on Powell Drive in the city’s Heights section.

The company told the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry that the plant is set to close on Oct. 31, and 70 jobs are affected.

The federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act requires companies closing or enacting mass-layoffs to provide notice to the state.

An email inquiry to the company for further information was not returned.
