Hazleton landmark business up for sale
HAZLETON – A staple of downtown Hazleton for nearly 90 years is up for sale.
Jimmy’s Quick Lunch on East Broad Street is described as the “Heartbeat of Hazleton” in a recent real estate listing.
The eatery, first opened in 1937, and the multi-unit building that its housed were put up for sale for $950,000.
Owner Jim Grohol told the Sentinel Thursday afternoon as he continued serving up hot dogs that he’s looking to retire.
The business has been in his family since it started and he is now nearing 70 years old and no one in the family wants to take it on.
He said the shop hasn’t been sold yet, and when it is, he’s willing to stick around to help “teach the ropes” to the new owners.
Regarding the shops status, he said he doesn’t often think of the shop as a landmark, but as a way to make a living, and that mindset has been passed down from generation to generation.
The building also includes three two bedroom apartments along with the shop.
Jimmy’s was recognized earlier this year by state legislators for its longevity in the city.
