Flames destroy truck, burn embankment on I-81
CASS TWP. – A truck was completely destroyed, and an embankment set afire on Interstate 81 on Friday, State Police at Frackville said Monday.
The incident happened around 9:30pm on April 10 near mile marker 117.3 Southbound.
Troopers said Iyana Eccles, 31, of Newark, New Jersey was headed southbound in a 2019 Freightliner when she noticed a fire. She pulled over promptly and called authorities as the flames spread.
Firefighters from fire companies in Altamont, Frackville, and Englewood responded and promptly extinguished the fire.
Troopers said “intense flames” spread to the roadside embankment.
Eccles was uninjured, and the travel lane of I-81 was closed for about an hour and a half.
The truck was towed from the scene by Trail Towing.
