Firefighters battle house fire near Quakake

QUAKAKE – Fire crews tackled a house fire just outside this village Friday afternoon.
The call came in just before 6pm for a report of smoke showing from a home in the 400 block of Hazle Street in Delano Township.
Many of the first due fire companies were participating in the Mahanoy Area Homecoming Parade at the time and broke off to respond.
Crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from a home at 481 Hazle Street right on the Delano/Rush Township line.
Flames damaged much of the home, though no injuries were reported.
A second alarm was struck for additional engines.
The fire was brought under control within about an hour.
Responding were firefighters from Delano, Ryan Township, McAdoo, Mahanoy City, Englewood, Hometown, among others.
