Fire chief accused of statutory sexual assault of 14-year-old in North’d County

MOUNT CARMEL – A Mount Carmel man and fire chief for a Mount Carmel Township fire company is behind bars on $100,000 bail after police in Northumberland County say he had sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old junior firefighter in 2018.
Kevin Mains, 42, of the 300 block of North Maple Street in Mount Carmel, who serves as chief of the Strong Fire Company, is facing felony charges of statutory sexual assault, sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, sexual assault by a nonprofit’s employee or volunteer, and corruption of minors. He is also facing a misdemeanor charge of indecent assault.
According to police, the incidents occurred at the firehouse in Strong, Mount Carmel Township, and at the Unknown Riders Clubhouse in Sagon, Coal Township.
Mains turned himself in earlier today and was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, Shamokin, and committed to Northumberland County Prison on $100,000 bail.
