Ex-sign language interpreter at Shen. Valley facing felony sexual assault charges
SHENANDOAH – A former sign language interpreter at the Shenandoah Valley High School was arraigned Monday on felony sex crimes, accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student.
Kimberly Rae McIntyre, 32, of 328 West Plane Street, Gordon, is facing four felony counts each of institutional sexual assault — intercourse/sexual contact with a school student, and corruption of minors.
She is also facing felony statutory sexual assault, felony involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with someone less than 16 years of age, and misdemeanor indecent assault of someone less than 16 years of age.
According to the criminal complaint filed by State Police Corporal Francis McDonald, the relationship was discovered in the spring of 2023.
Principal John Brennan reported the incident to State Police after he learned from another employee that McIntyre, who was employed as a sign language interpreter, had an inappropriate relationship with a male student.
Brennan interviewed the student, who said the two had a sexual encounter after the Tr-Valley football game in Sept. 2022. At the time, he was 15 years old.
The student reported the encounter to another employee who also worked with McIntyre via Snapchat, and said “he is not the only male student” in such a relationship with McIntyre.
The other male student, the victim reported, was 17.
Brennan, Superintendent Brian Waite, and Special Education Director Michelle Zinkus, interviewed McIntyre on March 23, 2023, where at first, she denied any wrongdoing before admitting to having the relationship with both students.
One victim, a football player, was interviewed by troopers that day in the presence of their father. He said that, as a sign-language interpreter, she was around the football team frequently. In the presence of his father, he denied having such a relationship, though the student asked his father to leave the room, which he did.
He then told troopers that “he had a crush on the defendant and started a conversation with her one day when he saw that she was upset.”
The student called her one night after work around September or October and they arranged to meet up at the Gold Star Plaza in the Turkey Run section of Shenandoah. He said they met that night, but only talked inside a vehicle.
Another night, they met up and began driving around the area, parking somewhere near Bicentennial Park on Shenandoah’s east end. There, he said he performed oral sex on McIntyre.
Troopers asked if the two ever engaged in intercourse, to which he said “yes.” Asked to recall the first time that happened, he told troopers that he visited McIntyre at her mother’s house in Gordon where it occurred. Asked how many times it happened, he could not give an exact number but guessed no less than 10 and no more than 25 times.
Not all of the encounters, the student said, were at the home in Gordon. Some where in his car in Shenandoah, he said, “in places where they wouldn’t get caught.”
The other student was interviewed that day as well, in the presence of their mother, and said he knew McIntyre as the sign-language interpreter at the school who worked with the football team.
After a football game, they went to eat at McDonald’s near Frackville and McIntyre drove around after, ending near the Mrs. T’s plant off Herald Road. There, she put her hand down the front of his pants and eventually performed oral sex, troopers wrote in the complaint.
McIntyre was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker and is free on $100,000 unsecured bail.
A preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 8 at 10am before Kilker.
I don’t get it ??? I guess a great lawyer ND the fact their boys , not men ,at their age or the defendant wouldn’t be out on 100,000 unsecured bail. For real a male teacher pulls this with a student in any town in PA they go directly to jail without passing go. I mean come on!!! If it was a simple drug possession it’s jail till your sentenced and hopefully sent to rehab but your definitely getting a bail you must pay to be released . I guess ahh I just don’t get it anymore. Seems the more heinous the crime as long as your a semi professional or don’t have the disease of addiction you can go home. It’s a shame while I don’t downplay drug abuse and the crime that goes along with it it sickens me that people who need the most help can’t get it sitting in a prison cell and can’t afford bail or their family is afraid to pay said bail because of their disease so they go through the hell of detox and the degradation of prison staff instead of being medically monitored somewhere but rape a male child and children these were, or rob a few hundred grand from your borough job and the elderly of town and you get to sleep at home. If your reading this thinking it’s personal it isn’t. I believe in you do the crime you do the time. Been there unfortunately done that!!!. But all isn’t as equal as were led to believe in our system with its even scales of justice. And this teacher If a male in court with an overworked and underpaid Public Pretender would be told to waive the charges to the county court and sent back to jail . Equal rights , the year 2024, blah ,blah , blah , and woke media bs whatever that means and all the other bs this case smells with is sickening and everyone involved with this unsecured bail should be ashamed of themselves. I’m sure none of these children are getting high fives from their buddies like the males In justice system prob discussed jokingly when asking for and granting this disgusting individual her bail. God forbid this every happens to any of these kids involved layer in life but if addiction does show its ugly face to any of them and I pray 🙏 it never does but I hope the justice system shows them the same blind eye and sends them hone on unsecured bail like it did to the sad excuse for a human being, woman, and school teacher who raped them and got to sleep in her own bed.
