Ex-newspaper publisher named community engagement director at Schuylkill United Way
POTTSVILLE – The Schuylkill United Way announced Monday that Mike Joyce has been named Director of Community Engagement.
In this role, Joyce will spearhead community & business development initiatives that strengthen and further develop the mission of the United Way.
In addition, he will take the lead on creating the vision and execution of the annual campaign.
In a media release, Joyce said he is most excited about, “the opportunity to join an organization that makes such a huge, positive impact on Schuylkill County. Staying here was very important to me, and I’m thrilled to be working at SUW.”
“Mike’s relationship with the SUW, his contacts within the community, his business acumen, and his commitment to Schuylkill County all help to make Mike the perfect fit for this role,” SUW Board President, Mr. John Gleisner stated. “Mike will start in the office effective Monday, and I look forward to seeing his contributions as he settles into his new role.”
Mike is from West Chester and a graduate of Shippensburg University.
He began his career in the newspaper industry in suburban Philadelphia, before coming to Schuylkill County in 1998 to become Advertising Director at the Republican Herald.
In 2019 he became Publisher of the newspaper, where he remained until it was sold in September, 2023. Mike joined the SUW Board of Directors in 2019 and later served as the 2023 Campaign Chair.
