Council adds second police captain position, promotes Applegate
SHENANDOAH – Shenandoah Borough Council approved the addition of a second captain position in the police force and elevated an officer to that position.
Mayor Andrew Szczyglak requested the addition at Monday’s meeting so a supervisor will be on duty on both day and night shifts.
He said the addition is in advance of potential changes in the police department next year.
Along with the addition of the position, Szczyglak asked that Cody Applegate be promoted to the new captain position.
Previously, the borough had three ranking officers overseeing the department’s patrolman — a chief, a captain, and a lieutenant.
“I do think it is in the town’s best interest to have a supervisor on duty during as many shifts as possible,” Council President Katie Catizone said.
