Borough residents uninjured in four-car crash near Cressona

CRESSONA – Two Shenandoah residents were unharmed when their vehicle was struck from behind and pushed into another in North Manheim Township Tuesday afternoon.

State Police at Schuylkill Haven say the crash happened around 3:00pm on Route 61 near Pottsville Street in the township.

Troopers said Doris Kauffman, 84, of Pottsville, was approaching a traffic light when her foot slipped off the brake and onto the accelerator.

Kauffman’s 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe struck the left rear of a 2012 Chevy Sonic driven by 73-year-old Joseph M. Zukowski, of Shenandoah, and a 1993 Buick Century driven by 49-year-old Leo Leinheiser, of New Philadelphia.

The force of the impact pushed Zukowski’s vehicle into a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer, driven by 20-year-old Kylie Tohill, of Port Carbon.

Kauffman was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital – Schuylkill – East Norwegian Street for treatment of apparent minor injuries, troopers said. Leinheiser, Tohill, Zukowski and passenger, also Joseph M. Zukowski, 29, of Shenandoah, were unharmed in the crash, and all were wearing their seatbelts.

Kauffman’s vehicle was towed from the scene by JJ’s Tire and Towing.
