Borough approves purchase of trail cameras to catch dumpers
SHENANDOAH – Borough council approved the purchase of trail cameras and a data plan with them, to be used to catch illegal dumpers.
Code Enforcement Officer Mark Pronio asked council to approve the $3,500 purchase at Monday night’s council meeting.
The idea was first raised at February’s meeting and was passed to the finance committee and the law and order committee.
The cameras themselves cost $1,500, and the data plans total $2,000 a year, Pronio said.
They will be solar and battery powered and will be placed at various hotspots in town.
Those areas have not yet been finalized, Pronio said.
“There’s plenty of spots,” Pronio said, adding that he wants to pair the cameras with warning signs.
In the public comment portion of the meeting, Mary Anczarski offered a dumpster and to cover the tipping costs of a clean-up day.
“I had no idea how bad the garbage problem was until I started walking around,” she said.
The idea would offer residents an opportunity to get rid of piled up trash instead of keeping it on their property or dumping it on other people’s property.
“Once the whole town is cleaned up, I think everyone can think more clearly, ‘How did it get this bad, and what happened?'” Anczarski added.
Pronio said the idea was great, especially ahead of Kielbasi Fest.
