Basket auction to help prominent Mahanoy businessman in need

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - A sign advertises this weekend's basket auction benefiting Bobby Moucheron at M&M Redzone on June 26, 2020.

MAHANOY CITY – A prominent Mahanoy City businessman is in need of a kidney and liver transplant, so a basket auction has been organized to help cover medical expenses.

Bobby Moucheron, owner of M&M Redzone in the 300 block of West Centre Street, receives dialysis three days a week, residing at the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Dauphin County, family members say, as he battles liver disease.

This weekend, family members have organized a basket auction to help cover medical expenses for Bobby and wife Cassie.

The basket auction will be held Saturday and Sunday. Saturday will be a shop and drop period from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the Humane Fire Company a few doors down.

The auction itself will be at the M&M Redzone from 2pm to 5pm Sunday.

“We have over 50 baskets on our regular basket table, all over $50 or more in value, and then we also have 12 large items that are valued over $100,” said niece Allison Kline, one of the organizers.

Kline and Sue Frantz, Cassie Moucheron’s sister, told the Sentinel Friday afternoon that Bobby would constantly give back to the community wherever and however possible, even today, donating food to volunteers in Gilberton.

“That’s kind of what he does. He gives to any organizations he can, whether it be the SPCA or the local nursing homes every Christmas,” Kline said.

Kline also noted how Bobby was recognized by the Mahanoy City Elks as Citizen of the Year last year.

“He’s always been very, very generous with Mahanoy and Marian students,” Kline said. “Many times he’s matched funds and done fundraisers for the marching band [among other organizations.]”

In response to the food donation, the Gilberton flood volunteers chose to donate to the benefit, Kline said.
