Ashland man hurt after Pottsville woman strikes car, construction vehicle
PALO ALTO – An Ashland man was taken to a local hospital after a crash near this borough on August 27.
State Police at Schuylkill Haven released their report on the crash today.
Troopers said the crash happened around 10:30am on Route 61 in North Manheim Township, in a construction zone near Palo Alto.
A 2005 Honda Civic, driven by 41-year-old Joshua Sophy, of Pottsville, was stopped as a construction vehicle was entering the open northbound lane.
Troopers said a 2001 Ford Escape, driven by 54-year-old Karen Fuller, approached the construction zone and attempted to apply the brakes, “but the brakes did not engage.”
The Escape rear-ended the Civic before striking a construction vehicle in the closed northbound lane.
The operator of said construction vehicle, 59-year-old Kevin Reese, of Ashland, suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital by Schuylkill EMS, troopers said.
Fuller and her passenger, Jennifer Yorski, 35, of Pottsville, and Sophy and his passenger, Liane Lonergan, 43, of Pottsville, were wearing their seatbelts and unharmed in the crash.
Both the Escape and Civic suffered disabling damage.
Troopers said Fuller will be cited for following too closely.
Responding along with State Police at Schuylkill Haven were Schuylkill EMS, Mount Carbon Fire Police, and JRL Towing.
