Alleged police impersonator faces charges in Hazleton

HAZLETON – A Sugarloaf man is facing charges, accused of impersonating a police officer in Hazleton.
Jose Miguel Santos, 68, of Sugarloaf, turned himself in Monday, Hazleton Police said Wednesday.
He was initially charged in February with misdemeanor impersonation of a public servant.
According to Hazleton Police, Santos is accused of brandishing a badge to a woman in the area of North Pine Street in the city in January.
He’s accused of telling the woman he could arrest her for having a no trespassing sign on her property.
Police said that no trespassing sign was installed because of Santos after previous incidents.
Santos, police said, is not and has never been a police officer.
He was arraigned and released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
A preliminary hearing is set for April 7.
