A-to-Z Food Mart opens in Anney’s Garden Cafe building
SHENANDOAH – A long-vacant property in downtown Shenandoah has found new life.
A To Z Food Mart opened late last month in the former Anney’s Garden Cafe building at 100 N. Main Street.
Vimal Barot, Frackville, owns the restaurant and spoke to the Sentinel by phone Thursday.
“Because of winter, it’s hard to say we’re doing great, but we’re doing alright,” Barot said. “Still, people don’t know we are open.”
The store is Barot’s third in the area, he said, the other two being in Girardville and Frackville.
“I thought, lets do it in Shenandoah too. It’s a big town, there’s a lot of opportunity,” he said.
The store opened on January 26, a day that was plagued with inclement weather.
Barot operates the store with the help of his cousin. The store offers a wide selection of food and drinks you’d expect to find in a convenience store, as well as hot food items, which the two say are the focus, specifically chicken.
“People love it over here,” they said.
The convenience store replaces the long-closed Anney’s Garden Cafe, which closed at least 13 years ago.
