Hazleton Area Crash Log

HAZLE TWP., Luzerne County – The following is a round-up of vehicle accidents handled by State Police in the Hazleton area.

Humboldt, Jan. 27

A single vehicle accident occurred just before 5am Jan. 27 in the Humboldt section of Hazle Township.

Troopers said Kelvin Pagan, 19, of Hazleton, was headed east on Oakridge Road, approaching the intersection with Maplewood Drive in a 2003 Audi A4.

Due to snowy and icy conditions, Pagan slid through the stop sign and struck a metal pole, causing disabling damage to his vehicle. Pagan was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.

His vehicle was towed from the scene by Hazle Auto. Troopers said he would be cited for speeding.

Ebervale, Jan. 25

A two-vehicle accident happened at Route 940 and Ebervale Road in Hazle Township around 1pm Jan. 25.

Troopers said Ana Rodriguez, 34, of Bronx, New York, was headed west on Route 940 in a 2013 Honda Accord.

Rodriguez lost control of the vehicle and began to fishtail back and forth, entering the oncoming lane and colliding with a 2000 GMC Yukon, driven by Natasha Custred, 31, of Freeland.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Rodriguez suffered minor injuries but refused transport by Greater Hazleton Ambulance.

Milnesville, Jan. 25

A two-vehicle accident occurred at Church St. and Airport Road in Hazle Township around noon Jan. 25.

Troopers said a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee was turning left from Airport Road onto Church Street in snowy conditions.

While making the turn, the Jeep fishtailed and struck a 2016 Freightliner utility truck, which was working on power lines at the time.

Both vehicles were able to be driven from the scene.

Humboldt, Jan. 21

A single vehicle accident occurred on the Can Do Expressway, Route 924, around 5:30am Jan. 21.

State Police said the crash occurred when Bobbi-Jo Gardner, 50, of Hazleton, hit a patch of ice and lost control of her 2002 Chevy Trailblazer, striking a wall on the side of the highway.

Gardner was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital – Hazleton for treatment.

Her vehicle was towed from the scene by Pauls Towing.

Humboldt, Jan. 24

A two-vehicle crash occurred in the Humboldt Industrial Park around 5am Jan 24.

Troopers said the crash happened at North Park Drive and Stony Creek Road when a 2018 Nissan Sentra slid on ice, striking a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu which had been abandoned in the road.

No injuries were reported, and neither vehicle was disabled.

The Malibu was towed away as an abandoned vehicle and its owner will be cited.

Hazle Twp., Jan. 23

A two vehicle crash occurred around 1pm Jan. 23 at Airport Road and Old Airport Road in Hazle Township.

State Police at Hazleton said the crash happened as a 2013 Honda Accord, driven by Deborah Caraballo, 53, of Hazleton, was stopped in the left lane at the traffic light.

Earl Hunsinger, 47, of Freeland, was travelling behind Caraballo in a 2003 Subaru Forester. Troopers said he was following “closer than reasonable and prudent” and rear-ended Caraballo.

Both vehicles sustained disabling damage and both drivers were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
