McAdoo firefighters tackle kitchen fire
McADOO – Firefighters from McAdoo and surrounding areas were called into service this afternoon for a kitchen fire in the borough.
Crews were called to the 200 block of South Cleveland Street for a reported house fire.
Firefighters arrived to find fire blowing out of an exhaust vent in the kitchen.
Michael Bowman, commanding officer at the scene, said crews were able to extinguish the fire with a water can and contain the fire to the exhaust vent.
The quick work of firefighters, he said, kept the fire from spreading elsewhere in the house.
“It looked like the fire was just starting to go up into the roof,” Bowman said. “Thank God we had the right people in the right place to stop it.”
No one was hurt in the fire, Bowman said.
He said that he believes the fire was caused by an electrical short, and hopes that an electrician can isolate the problem and keep the elderly resident in her home today.
Responding to the scene along with McAdoo fire was McAdoo Police and Lehigh Valley Health Network EMS. Firefighters from Hometown, Sheppton, Hazle Township, Sugarloaf, and Mahanoy City were also initially dispatched but were cancelled on the way.
