Pottsville duplex destroyed by fire

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - Heavy damage is evident at the rear of a duplex on York Farm Road in Pottsville.

POTTSVILLE – A double-block home in this city was heavily damaged by fire midday Friday.

The Pottsville City Bureau of Fire was called to 16 York Farm Road around noon for the blaze.

Crews arrived to find smoke showing and flames quickly engulfed the rear of the duplex.

Firefighters from Schuylkill Haven were called for their Rapid Intervention Team.

The firefight lasted nearly an hour, and additional crews from Port Carbon, Orwigsburg, Llewellyn, and Saint Clair were called to the scene to assist.

Mahanoy City firefighters, from the West End and Citizens fire companies, were also called to stand-by at Pottsville’s Humane Fire Company.

Also assisting at the scene was Schuylkill EMS and Pottsville Fire Police.

It was not known as of Friday afternoon if anyone was hurt and how many people lived in the two homes.
