Coronavirus nixes Santa Drop; Mrs. T’s, DSI team up for alternative

SHENANDOAH – The traditional kickoff to the Christmas season in the Shenandoah Valley won’t happen this year, but there will still be a Christmas kickoff in town.

Ateeco Inc., makers of Mrs. T’s Pierogies, announced today that they are collaborating with Downtown Shenandoah, Inc. for an alternative.

The Santa Drop, originally slated for next Friday, Nov. 27, was cancelled as a result of rising coronavirus cases in the region.

This year’s event looks to be an expanded version of the Christmas kickoff when inclement weather keeps Santa on the ground.

Next Friday, Santa will parade through town aboard the Polish American Fire Company’s antique Seagrave fire engine beginning at 1:00pm. This year’s parade route is expanded from year’s past.

The parade will begin on West Washington Street near borough hall, and traverse Main, Cherry, Vine, Centre, Emerick, and Coal Streets, as well as Stadium Road.

In addition to the parade, Mrs. T’s and DSI have teamed up to install a Christmas Village in Veterans Memorial Park adjacent to the Damato Post building.

Along with Christmas music and décor, a magical mailbox will be set up for children to drop off their letters to Santa, Mrs. T’s says. “

Those that include a return address will even receive a postcard back from Santa Claus! Letters can be dropped off at the Christmas Village between Nov. 27 and Dec. 22,” Mrs. T’s said.

“We are excited to work with DSI to welcome Santa, and the Christmas season, to Shenandoah safely. This year has required a lot of events to pivot, and we hope that our adjusted plan will still help local families create happy Christmas memories,” says Meghan Heim, Assistant Public Relations Manager, Mrs. T’s Pierogies.

“We would like to thank Mrs. T’s for all it is doing to make Christmas magical.  We are very happy to partner with Mrs. T’s  to make Christmas come to Shenandoah in a  different but awesome way. Happy Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas to all”, said Mary Luscavage.
