Mahanoy City, Ashland join Shenandoah in closing borough hall
MAHANOY CITY – The borough offices of the three largest boroughs in our primary coverage area will be closed as a precaution regarding the coronavirus.
Ashland and Mahanoy City announced closures today, the former until further notice and the latter until April 1, in an effort to “reduce the impact of COVID-19 on workers and the public.”
“Mahanoy City Borough office will be closed to the public until April 1st, 2020 due to safety concerns of COVID-19,” Angela Hughes, Mahanoy City borough secretary, said.” All essential workers will be in place and citizens can contact the borough office by phone with any concerns that can’t wait until April 1st and we will evaluate them on a case by case basis.”
In addition, Mahanoy City’s upcoming Community Day meeting and Home Rule meeting are both cancelled.
Ashland announced the closure via Facebook, noting that the closure is effective March 18 until further notice.
“Staff will be available by phone to provide any assistance necessary,” the borough wrote. “Utility payments may be paid via mail or by placing payments in the mailbox in front of borough hall.”
The two boroughs join Shenandoah in the move. Shenandoah approved a similar closure at last night’s borough council meeting.
