Three displaced in Mahanoy blaze

MAHANOY CITY – Three people were displaced after fire tore through a set of row homes in the 400 block of West Spruce Street in Mahanoy City Friday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to the scene just after 2:30pm, and, with fire showing from a window, the incident was upgraded to a second alarm.

Firefighters from Ryan Township, Shenandoah, Frackville, Pottsville, Girardville, Tamaqua, and others were brought to the scene, while Nuremberg-Weston’s ladder was requested to Frackville to cover their station.

Multiple row homes in the block were damaged in the fire, 421 423, 425, 427, 429 West Spruce Streets.

The fire was marked under control just after 3:30pm, and the American Red Cross was requested to the scene, as was a Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal was also requested to the scene.

​Around 4:00pm, fire crews began to be released from the scene.

Five homes in total were involved in the blaze.

Three people from 429 were displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross.
