Police: New York City woman nearly strikes cruisers on traffic stop, leads chase
DRUMS – A New York City woman is in Luzerne County Prison after police say she not only failed to slow down and move over for a traffic stop, but nearly struck patrol cars and led officers on an chase.
Neymma A. Tyson, 38, of Brooklyn, was arrested by Butler Township (Luzerne County) Police over the weekend.
According to Butler Township Police, officers were parked on the shoulder of North Hunter Highway with emergency lights active for a traffic stop.
Tyson approached the scene and crossed the fog line, nearly striking the patrol cars, police alleged.
Officers caught up to Tyson and attempted to pull her over. She initially slowed down, police said, then fled onto Interstate 80.
The chase ended eight miles east near White Haven with White Haven Police and state troopers assisting.
Police allege she showed multiple signs of impairment and had a THC vaping device.
She was charged with felony fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer as well as DUI, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and a charge related to the Slow Down, Move Over law.
Tyson was arraigned and committed to Luzerne County Prison, unable to post $1,000 bail.
Butler Township Police said state law allows for a $500 fine for failing to slow down or move over for first responders working a roadside incident, which they say is one of the most dangerous situations for them.
