Railroad sponsoring adoptions at SPCA through mid-January
KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - Reading and Northern Railroad Locomotive #1776 crosses over Main Street in Mahanoy City on Nov. 20, 2025.
POTTSVILLE – If you’re looking for a furry friend, the railroad is making it a little easier for the next month.
Now through Jan. 15, the Reading and Northern Railroad is covering all adoption fees at the Hillside SPCA.
“The railroad is committed to protecting the Earth and the creatures living on it,” railroad owner and CEO Andy Muller said in a media release. “Our friends at Hillside SPCA have been dealing with an astronomical number of stray drop-offs, dumped animals, and long-term residents in the past few months. We would love to see them find a place to call home for the rest of their lives.”
“Who knows, maybe we can even clear the kennels,” he quipped.
The Port Clinton-based railroad said folks can stop by the SPCA at 51 SPCA Road, Pottsville, between 11am and 3pm to adopt.
