Ashland native tapped to lead Marian Catholic

HOMETOWN – An Ashland native and Cardinal Brennan grad is now leading the last parochial high school north of Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County.

Rev. Robert T. Finlan was appointed principal at Marian Catholic High School earlier this week.

In a letter to the Marian community, Bishop Alfred Schlert expressed his gratitude and confidence in the school’s mission moving forward.

Schlert said Finlan is uniquely equipped to lead Marian at this pivotal time.

“He is an exemplary priest with seasoned experience as a Catholic Educator, Catholic High School Administrator, and Pastor,” Schlert said. “I have every confidence in his abilities.”

“I will be forever grateful to our students, parents, and families who have weathered these past few weeks; who have remained positive and confident in Marian’s future; who are enrolling and re-enrolling to receive a quality Catholic education that has been the Marian tradition for decades,” Schlert added in his letter.

A native of Ashland and alumnus of the former Cardinal Brennan High School with a Masters in Education, Father Finlan has devoted his priesthood to parish ministry and Catholic education, and is familiar with the culture and the faith of the region.
