PSP: Teen rescued from Coaldale blaze; fire ruled accidental

COALDALE – An unattended citronella candle sparked a blaze that sent a Coaldale teen to a Lehigh County hospital last week.

State Police at Frackville said the fire broke out just before 7pm at 44 East Howard Avenue in Coaldale last Wednesday.

Troopers said Coaldale firefighters arrived to find flames coming from the rear of the home.

A 13-year-old boy was rescued from the first floor of the home and flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest for treatment.

A 37-year-old Coaldale man was taken to a nearby hospital for smoke inhalation.

A State Police fire marshal determined the cause of the fire was accidental, caused by an unattended citronella candle at the rear of the home.

The firefight rose to multiple alarms, drawing crews from across Schuylkill and Carbon counties to the scene.
