SHENANDOAH – Outside the Shenandoah Valley High School band room, a longtime music instructor in Shenandoah is now remembered.

Edward J. McDermott was director of bands in the Shenandoah Borough School District and later Shenandoah Valley School District from 1937 to 1975.

Known as “Pro” by his students, he passed away in 1986 and is fondly remembered by many SV alumni.

John Shoener, current band director, and three alumni of McDermott’s — Cheryl Keithan Kostowskie, Susie Keithan Chuplis, and Edward Tobin — unveiled the plaque during Thursday’s high school band concert.
