Shumski issues apology at sewer authority meeting, ‘fines will be paid, I’m moving on’
SHENANDOAH – The chairman of the Shenandoah Municipal Sewer Authority issued a public apology at this month’s meeting at borough hall Wednesday afternoon.
Robert Shumski, 76, of Turkey Run, pleaded guilty last week to two summary charges related to a scuffle borough police said broke out when he was campaigning for borough council votes. He is not on the primary ballot for a council seat.
He provided a brief statement at the beginning of Wednesday’s regular sewer authority meeting.
“I apologize to the borough council and members of this board, and the community,” Shumski said. “The charges were reduced to a summary offense. Fines will be paid, and I’m moving on.”
In other business, the authority had an extended discussion regarding delinquent sewer bills and potential steps to alleviate the issue, including potentially sending out correspondence.
The board approved the hiring of a part-time secretary to be paid from the sewer fund.
Engineer Chris McCoach said meetings were held earlier Wednesday with the USDA and PennDOT regarding the new sewer plant project.
He said they expect to have a highway occupancy permit for the project within the next month.
