Nursing centers recognized for efforts in wake of fire

FOUNTAIN SPRINGS – The staff of two local nursing centers were recognized Wednesday for their efforts in helping residents after a fire at one of the centers.
The Schuylkill Elder Abuse Prevention Alliance held their annual awards luncheon Wednesday at the Fountain Springs Country Inn.
Among those recognized were the staffs at The Birches at Shenandoah Senior Living Community and the Mount Carmel Senior Living Community.
Fire broke out at the Mount Carmel center on Jan. 4, 2025. SEAPA commended the staff’s quick work in evacuating residents and putting residents’ safety above their own.
Eleven displaced residents were taken in by the Shenandoah center, which SEAPA commended as well.
