PennDOT plans ’25 road projects in east-central Pennsylvania

ALLENTOWN – PennDOT recently announced projects they plan to undertake or continue in east-central Pennsylvania in the 2025 construction season, including three in Schuylkill County.
“The roads and bridges in this region are important to every person who lives, works, and visits here,” said District 5 Executive Chris Kufro. “This investment in our transportation system is essential for a well-maintained and sustainable transportation system.”
The state agency plans to invest more than $1 Billion in District 5, including Schuylkill, Berks, Carbon, Lehigh, Monroe, and Northampton counties. That covers 108 miles of highway and 133 bridges.
In our area, the Route 61 reconstruction project is set to continue at a cost of $115 Million. Work is underway on “the grade” between Frackville and Saint Clair.
PennDOT also plans to continue milling and paving on Route 54 from Mahanoy City east through Hometown at a cost of $2.6 Million. A portion of that project has already been completed.
On the Interstate, PennDOT plans to mill, patch, and pave the highway in Foster, Frailey, Pine Grove, and Tremont townships at a cost of $14.47 Million.
In District 4, PennDOT also plans to replace a bridge carrying Stockton Mountain Road over Hazle Creek in Hazle Township.
As construction projects are underway in the region, the traveling public can anticipate seeing many work zones and are urged to keep in mind their safety and the safety of highway workers. When encountering a work zone, please drive the posted speed limit, turn on your headlights, pay close attention to signs and flaggers, and avoid all distractions.
