Hazleton Chamber plans Earth Day clean-up effort

HAZLETON – What organizers call one of Pennsylvania’s largest clean-up efforts is coming up next weekend.
The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce is teaming up with PennDOT, local municipalities, and Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful to host a clean-up in the region. They’ve done so for the past 42 years.
The Chamber is asking for folks who live and work in the area to pitch in and adopt a roadway, block, park, or playground.
Supplies will be provided, including garbage bags, safety vests, and gloves for each volunteer.
It will take place the weekend of April 25, 26, and 27 and more information can be found at the Hazleton Chamber’s website.
In Schuylkill County, Schuylkill Keep It Pretty is putting together a Spring Clean event. You can read about that here.
Both of these efforts tie into the 2025 Pick Up Pennsylvania initiative sponsored by Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful in recognition of Earth Day.
To help with the cost of trash disposal, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and Pennsylvania Waste Industries Association are sponsoring low or no cost disposal through April 30.
“This year, Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful celebrates 35 years of fostering cleaner, greener communities,” Michelle Dunn, Pick Up Pennsylvania program coordinator, said. “It’s a milestone that highlights the power of collective action and the difference each of us can make. Imagine the impact of picking up litter, planting trees, painting park benches, and educating others about the importance of a clean environment. These small actions ripple out, creating a healthier, more beautiful world for everyone. Join us in honoring our 35th anniversary by participating in local clean-up efforts. Together, we can make a lasting difference.”
