Warming shelters opening for bitter cold in Northumberland County
MOUNT CARMEL – Bitter cold temperatures are expected next week, and there will be warming shelters open in Northumberland County.
Beginning Monday, the Northumberland County Area Agency on Aging and Veterans Affairs will open the shelters on Monday and operate them from 8:30am to 8pm through Thursday.
In Mount Carmel, the shelter will be at the Mount Carmel Adult Community Center at 41 South Market Street.
Shelters are also available at the Coal Region Adult Community Center, 2 East Arch Street in Shamokin (except Monday) and the Herndon Adult Community Center on Route 147.
Community members of any age can use any of the warming shelters and are encouraged to bring snack items and non-alcoholic beverages for their families.
