SHENANDOAH – A group of Shenandoah Valley students will be among 180 from northeastern PA who will view a live gastric surgery taking place in Dauphin County next week.
Educational Opportunity Centers, Inc., which operates the Talent Search program at Shenandoah, will take students from Shenandoah, Hazleton, Wilkes-Barre, and Scranton to the Whitaker Center in Harrisburg next Tuesday, where the students will see and hear surgical teams in real time and will be able to ask questions during the surgical procedure.
Following the surgery, students will spend the afternoon at the STEM laboratory and watch a 3D film, Engineering in our Modern World.
“All of this is geared toward encouraging students to consider lucrative, high-paying careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math,” the center said in a media release.
The Educational Talent Search program assists students who are the first in their family to graduate from college as well as represent individuals identified as low-income. EOC, Inc. conducts many field trips like this throughout the year.
