Prospective Eagle Scout’s project dedicated at Sheppton Park
SHEPPTON – A Sheppton teen seeking to reach the pinnacle of scouting saw that people were using the picnic tables at his neighborhood park as an open canvas, spawning the idea for his Eagle Scout project.
Graysen Motyl, a member of BSA Troop 207 in Conyngham, dedicated his project at the Sheppton Park at midday Saturday.
Motyl built a handicapped-accessible picnic table — one with shorter benches than the table, allowing wheelchairs to comfortably sit at the table — but with a slight twist.
The table is covered in a sort-of canvas material that he says can allow parkgoers to draw on the table without damaging or vandalizing it.
A cabinet for art supplies was installed nearby as well.
Saturday’s dedication was also to include an art class for attendees.
The table is dedicated to Louis Bova, who died in the Sheppton Mine Disaster in the 1960s.
He expressed gratitude to his troop, East Union Township, the Lions Club, the Sheppton-Oneida Fire Co., and more for their assistance in the project.
As for Motyl’s road to Eagle Scout, he still must appear before a Board of Review.
