Mahanoy commemorates 35th anniversary of 1989 girls’ basketball state championship
MAHANOY CITY – Prior to Friday’s home opener for the Lady Bears, several members of the 1989 state championship basketball squad were on-hand, as was Coach Joe Alansky in his namesake gym.
The 1989 squad finished the season 30-2, winning the Schuylkill League Division III title, the District XI title, and the state championship.
Melissa Walters Honus, Robin Wolfgang, and Terri Stanakis joined Alansky and assistant coach Stan Wlodarczyk for the recognition, along with Chrissy Walters, manager.
